Short answer
A currency missing from a displayed rate table is not automatically available or unavailable. Contact your chosen JAK office with the currency name or code, whether you want to buy or sell, the amount, denominations, and condition of any notes you hold. Staff must check whether the transaction can be handled, physical availability, and the applicable rate before you travel to the office.
Practical checklist
- Write down the currency name and code shown on the notes, if available.
- State whether you want to buy foreign cash or sell it for Indonesian Rupiah.
- Provide the amount, note count, denominations, series, and physical condition.
- Choose the Gading Serpong, Rawa Bokor, or Mega Kuningan office for your visit.
- Ask staff to confirm whether they can handle the transaction, the rate, availability, and visiting time.
- Do not transfer funds before confirming the transaction details and company bank account.
An absent listing is not a final answer
The website's rate table is a starting point, but the currencies displayed at one moment do not answer every question about a particular currency or denomination. A missing code is neither a promise that cash is available nor an automatic decision that your banknotes will be rejected. Buying and selling require different checks: an office may need to confirm physical inventory for a purchase, while a sale requires examination of the notes you bring.
Do not use an unrelated currency in the calculator to invent a rate for a missing one. Without a displayed rate and reviewed transaction details, there is no sound basis for treating any figure as a JAK transaction price. Ask your chosen office directly. This can save an unnecessary journey, especially when you have a departure date or a company deadline.
Identify the currency and direction of exchange
Give staff the currency name and its three-letter code if you know it. Similar names may refer to different issuing countries, series, or types of banknote. If you are unsure, describe the words on the note and the issuing country. Do not assume that every note with a familiar currency name has the same acceptance conditions or value.
Then use one unambiguous sentence: 'I want to buy this foreign currency with Rupiah' or 'I want to sell this foreign currency and receive Rupiah.' From the money changer's perspective, your purchase uses its selling rate, while your sale uses its buying rate. Stating the direction helps prevent misunderstandings about the columns and lets staff answer the right question.
Amount, denominations, and condition matter
If buying, tell the office how much you need and which denominations would be useful. A traveler seeking cash for initial transport may need a different mix from a business customer. Staff can then check whether that currency and denomination mix is available at the particular office. Stock can change, so asking before visiting is better than assuming every denomination is always held.
If selling, report the number of notes, face value of each note, visible series or year, and physical condition. Older, worn, marked, or torn notes may need additional examination. You may ask whether front-and-back photos would help an initial enquiry, but staff determine acceptance and the applicable rate after examining the actual notes. Do not send identity documents or sensitive information to a number you have not verified.
Send a WhatsApp message staff can answer
A specific question is more useful than simply writing 'What is the rate?' For a purchase, you might write: 'Hello JAK Gading Serpong. I want to buy [currency] in the amount of [amount] for [date]. Is it available? I need [denominations]. Please advise the rate and a suitable visiting time.' Replace the office name with your chosen location. For a sale: 'I want to sell [currency], amount [amount], denominations [details], condition [brief description]. Can your office inspect it?'.
A WhatsApp enquiry is not automatically a booking or an agreed exchange rate. If staff offer a purchase reservation, request written terms covering the currency, amount, denominations, price, payment, validity period, and cancellation before agreeing. For an order whose rate has been agreed, Bank Indonesia rules require settlement at the agreed rate. Keep an initial enquiry distinct from a booking confirmed by both sides.
Choose an office that fits your journey
JAK has offices in Gading Serpong, Rawa Bokor, and Mega Kuningan. People in BSD, Pagedangan, or nearby Gading Serpong areas can check the route to Verona Junction. Those in Benda or the Soekarno-Hatta Airport area may consider the Rawa Bokor office on Jl. Atang Sanjaya; it is outside the airport terminals. For Kuningan and South Jakarta, see the Mega Kuningan office in Menara Anugrah.
An office being convenient does not prove that your currency is available there. Each office should confirm its own rate, stock, and acceptance of notes presented. Check directions and regular hours on its office page, then ask whether public-holiday hours differ. If your need is urgent, tell staff your real deadline so they can say whether a visit that day is practical.
Complete the transaction through official channels
Start from the WhatsApp number on the official website and the official website. Be cautious of anyone who copies JAK's name or logo and asks you to move to another number. If a Rupiah bank transfer is involved, verify written instructions and an account in the name of PT Jakarta Arta Kencana, never a personal account. Check those details again with the official office before paying.
Foreign banknotes in a non-bank currency exchange transaction must be physically delivered under the applicable rules. Photos and an initial conversation do not replace an in-office examination. Once staff have explained the rate for your actual transaction, check the amount you will receive, complete verification, and keep your receipt. If the currency cannot be handled, ask for a clear explanation rather than forcing the transaction.
Frequently asked questions
Is a currency definitely rejected if it is absent from the table?
The table alone cannot establish that. Give your chosen office the currency name, buy-or-sell direction, amount, denominations, and note condition so staff can check.
Can I estimate its rate using another currency's rate?
Do not treat another currency's rate as your transaction price. Ask staff to confirm the rate for the correct currency and transaction details.
Does sending a note photo guarantee acceptance?
No. Photos may support an initial enquiry if staff request them, but acceptance and the rate depend on examination of the physical notes.
Does a WhatsApp enquiry lock a rate?
No. An initial enquiry is different from an agreed booking. Request the full written terms before agreeing to a purchase reservation.
